The restaurant will be part of a new hotel that twenty2 is designing for a magnificent location overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. It is the culmination of the guest journey from arrival through zoned open plan public areas to the ocean-facing side of the property and the crowning experience in the indoor/outdoor relationship that is central to our plan for the entire floor.
While selected elements of the material palette have been drawn through from the hotel, the aesthetic of the restaurant is distinctly different, designed to reflect its high-quality sushi fusion cuisine. Inside, the design language is formal and structured, softened by organic materials that reveal subtle details and colour tones as well as by Asian-style features and objects. Slatted timber recalls the decorative screens of the all-day dining restaurant, translated here into a ceiling feature that takes on Asian reference. Timber counters, inspired by simple Asian carpentry, contrast with polished marble and textured stone while precise metalwork is juxtaposed with rough-hewn brickwork in a dark finish, allowing the food display to be the focus.
The indoor space opens onto a huge outdoor terrace, more than doubling the restaurant’s footprint. Designed as a room outside, the terrace offers a variety of seating areas and a large fire pit surrounded by cosy sofas. Both the terrace and the interior have their own sushi bar and kitchen, allowing guests to enjoy the same cuisine whether inside or out.
